Migration Report - 26th June 2007
The rains that started in the beginning of June in some areas of the Serengeti intensified though June. Northern Serengeti, Seronera, Moru and Olubaye area and parts of the Western Corridor received considerably amounts of rain. There were showers in the short grass plains area around Ndutu and north of there, but they were definitely showers as opposed to rain.
As we indicated, the Migration herds did come back down south with the new sources or water and the fresh grass but they became very spread out throughout the southern and central Serengeti area. There has not been any major rain for the last week or so, and when it dries up the herds will start moving northwards. However, it is now a much more regular timetable than before.
There are big herds to be seen in central Serengeti/Moru/Mbalageti and Western corridor.
There are also herds of zebra quite far north around Lobo and Tagora, they move in before the wildebeest do, and this may be an indication the wildies are about to follow. However, we suspect that the herds will stay wide spread throughout the region as they move up north over the next 3 weeks or so.
