Migration Update - 21st May 2007
Despite the heavy rains early on in the Green season, the southern plains have dried out quickly over recent weeks. Until the last few days, there had been no substantial rainfall in the area and the grasses and temporary water holes had started to dry out. The Park Authority had started its early burn policy to try and reduce the danger of full scale bush fires later on. The heavy rains meant that the ground cover is unusually thick.Consequently, the migration went on the move early that normal and were already in the Seronera area from late April and early May.
In the last few days has seen been some decent rainfall West of Seronera and the Western corridor. East of this area has only received light and scattered showers. The next week looks to be more of the same.
If the rains continue, then the herds should stay in the Moru/Seronera/Western Corridor area for a bit. If not we may find that the herds move up north earlier than usual
